Surface Area of Cone Tutors

Surface Area of Cone Tutors A cone is solid geometric figure consisting of three dimensions. A cone has a circular base and this circular base forms a curved surface around the cone which meets at a single point on the top known as the vertex of the cone. We can calculate the volume and the surface area of a cone. The total surface area of a cone is calculated by adding the area of the circular base (area of the circle) to the curved surface area of the cone. Example 1: What is the total surface area of a cone whose radius of the circular base is 10m and the slant height of the cone is 14m? Given: radius, r = 10m Slant height of the cone, s = 14m Total Surface area of Cone, SA = * r2 + * r* s This gives: Total surface area of the cone, SA= (* 102) + (* 10* 14) = 100+ 140 = 754m2 Therefore, the total surface area of the given cone is 754m2 Example 2: What is the total surface area of a cone whose radius of the circular base is 7m and the slant height of the cone is 12m? Given: radius, r = 7m Slant height of the cone, s = 12m Total Surface area of Cone, SA = * r2 + * r* s This gives: Total surface area of the cone, SA= (* 72) + (* 7* 12) = 49+ 84 = 417.8m2 Therefore, the total surface area of the given cone is 417.8m2
